World Heritage site—since I’d made the effort to come to Portugal, I simply had to visit! So off I went.
Mafra National Palace(Palácio Nacional de Mafra)
The National Palace of Mafra (Palácio Nacional de Mafra) is a magnificent Baroque complex in Portugal, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.
Mafra is accessible by bus from Lisbon in 40 minutes.。
By bus from Lisbon
From Campo Grande Bus Terminal, take routes 2740 or 2803 for a direct service to Mafra.
The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.

The bus stop is around here.
Mafra National Palace(Palácio Nacional de Mafra)
Upon reaching Mafra, a grand palace rises before you. It feels almost larger than the Jerónimos Monastery.
The town itself is very compact. Three hours is ample time to see everything.

The interior of the National Palace of Mafra is overwhelmingly impressive, featuring a distinctive antler room reflecting the popularity of deer hunting, and brimming with unique highlights.

A magnificent library. This alone makes the trip worthwhile.

Next, we’re off to Ericeira. Since we had time before catching the bus, let’s relax at a café popular on Google Maps reviews. Personally, I think their chocolate cake is delicious.

Going to Ericeira.
This town, known as a surf sanctuary on Portugal’s west coast, boasts waves that draw many tourists.
It’s just a direct bus ride from Lisbon, taking about an hour.
Though I visited in summer, it was overcast. Even so, time spent on the beach feels wonderfully slow.

It’s a small town where you can get around on foot, and you’ll often find yourself walking on cobbled streets and slopes, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
A recommended area where you can gaze out at the sea from the cliffs or descend them to spend time on lovely beaches.
On weekends, there’s a flea market too. They had something like Mario Kart. Haha.
