Visit Castelo de S. Jorge (St. George’s Castle).

Five months after moving to Lisbon, my family had finally begun to settle into their new surroundings, so we decided to visit Castelo de S. Jorge (St. George’s Castle).

Castelo de S. Jorge is a castle built on a high hill, and it seems that it was strategically located in a place with a panoramic view of the Tagus River estuary and the city.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to São Jorge Castle, but there are often long lines to buy tickets, so we recommend purchasing tickets online for smooth entry.

The ‘orange-coloured spectacular view’ seen from the top of the castle wall

Upon entering, you are greeted by a wide sky and large trees that make you feel like you are in another world.

The most appealing feature of this location is undoubtedly the view from the city walls.
In front of you lies the Alfama neighbourhood with its orange-tiled roofs and the magnificent Tagus River. In the distance, you can see the 25 de Abril Bridge, creating a picture-perfect scene.

Castle Wall Walk

You can walk along the top of the city walls and go all the way around. The view from Lisbon’s high elevation is breathtaking!
The walls are quite high, so I walked along them feeling a little nervous. That sense of tension is also part of the fun.

The stars of the castle, walking gracefully? Peacocks.

I wonder if there are cats around… I can hear peacocks calling.
It seems that coexisting with humans is normal, as a family of peacocks is walking around very close by.

I was lucky enough to have a peacock lead the way and guide me.

Finally, this is what it looks like after the peacock has passed away!

The approximate time spent there was about 1.5 to 2 hours, taking photos and walking around slowly.
When you visit Lisbon, be sure to experience the wonderful view from the top of this hill!
