Recommendations for digital detoxification

Nowadays, we can’t let go of our phones and computers. How about you all?
I am. I can’t let go of them for the rest of my life.

But we often hear that prolonged use of digital devices can lead to reduced concentration and increased stress.
This is where ‘digital detox’ comes into focus.

It is difficult to give them up all the time, but in my case, I turn off all notifications in order to realise ‘I look at them when I want to’. I have been doing this for five years.

Smartphones and PCs have become indispensable in modern society. However, prolonged use of digital devices can lead to reduced concentration and increased stress. This is why ‘digital detox’ is attracting attention. I myself have adopted such innovations as organising smartphone apps, managing emails and setting notifications off. This article introduces the advantages and disadvantages of digital detoxification and how to put it into practice.

Benefits of digital detoxification.

1. Improved concentration

Checking fewer notifications and social networking sites makes it easier to immerse yourself in your work and increase productivity.
You get immersed when you’re thinking about logic, and notifications can easily disrupt that concentration. Ideally, you should not have a smartphone (difficult…).

2. Stress Reduction

It frees you from information overload and gives you time to calm down.
Especially after moving to Portugal, I spent less time looking at social networking sites. I sometimes thought that not going for information in this information society would be a delay. But mental health is more important than anything else. I will make my own choices.

3. Improved quality of sleep

Avoiding smartphone use before bed reduces the effects of blue light and helps you get a good night’s sleep.
It’s also bad for your eyes. It’s a bad choice because your body is trying to sleep and the light from your phone is trying to wake you up.。

4. Improving relationships.

You have more opportunities for real communication and enjoy more time with your loved ones.
‘Passing the time’ is becoming a digital world now. If you raise your eyes and suddenly look at the other person, you will notice many things. Happiness may be gained when you let go of your phone.

Disadvantages of digital detoxification.

1. Possibility of delay in communication.

If you turn off notifications, you may miss important communications.
In my case, I don’t even get phone notifications, so well, I miss them. There are two important things to do to counteract this.
The first is to decide when you want to look at them, and the second is to force only certain notifications to sound (this is a separate article).

The iPhone has a sleep mode and a work mode, so you want to use them well.

3. Difficult to habituate.

Being dependent on digital devices can be inconvenient at first.
It can be difficult if you live a life where you just end up on your phone whenever you have a spare moment. When you do, turn it off. You have it, but it’s not switched on, so you can’t see it. I think you have to get used to it little by little.

But once you get into the habit, you will see a new world.

Practice Methods

1. Organising smartphone apps

First, delete unused apps and place only the minimum necessary apps on the home screen.
Apps that have not been opened for a month are not used. Delete them.
Also delete games. If you really want to play a game, use a PC, for example.ンおきましょう。

Managing notifications

Turn off any unnecessary notifications, except for work or urgent notifications.
Some notifications are necessary and some are not; with LINE, promotions and other notifications are less urgent, so mute them.

3. Organising mail

Separate important and non-important emails into folders and furthermore, unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters.

4. Making time for digital-free time

Take measures to give up or not be able to see your phone at certain times of the day.
Portugal is a good place to come to, as you can let go by simply sitting in a chair and soaking up the sun.

summary

A digital detox is not about stopping the use of smartphones and computers altogether, but about getting on with it.
Try to understand the advantages and disadvantages and adopt a method that suits you.
With a little awareness, you can have a more fulfilling daily life.
